Why songwriting?

• Fun, emotional release, self-expression
• Surprisingly accessible
• Boost your creativity
• Express when it's too hard with words alone
• Be felt and understood
Songs help us connect with ourselves and the people around us. They allow our deepest feelings to be expressed and heard. They take our emotions on a ride which boosts our happiness. Songwriting puts you at the crossroad of words, music, thoughts, and feelings.

Therapeutic Co-writing Package

The co-writing service lets you tell the story and I turn it into a song. It is a therapeutic package that helps you process emotions or express your feelings through songs. It is available for individuals and groups.Songwriting has been used as a powerful tool for healing deep emotional traumas. It has been used in the US to help war veterans and medical professionals during the COVID pandemic to move through trauma. Read more about the work done by the American singer-songwriter, Mary Gauthier, here.In this package, we'll have a good chat about your story and turn your story into a song. Then we show this song to your friends and family so your feelings are shared and heard. This process is very powerful and deeply healing.

Step 1. we meet for a good chat about your story

We'll chat for up to 2 hours (only if you feel comfortable). I will ask questions to fully understand your perspective and feelings to gather material for the song.

Step 2. songwriting

Your song will be written in the next 15 working days. Then I will show you the finished song for a review before the next step.

Step 3. perform the song to your friends and family

"Shared joy is a double joy; shared sorrow is half sorrow." – Swedish ProverbIn the final step, I (and/or you) perform this song to people who you'd like to share your feelings with. This can be your family friend or people who share a similar background who would understand you.

What happens to the songs?

Songwriting Royalties

For the songs coming out of the co-writing packages, they will be registered with APRA AMCOS NZ with the participants as co-writers of their songs. You will need to register with APRA. You can choose to buy out the publishing rights as an add-on package. For the songs written during the songwriting workshops, we will discuss on a case-by-case basis.
